Subject

Steam M&E Train

Description

This is part of the view west from Bailey Avenue bridge. In the foreground on main 8, engine 5430 is heading the 30 cars of no. 122, a mail and express run to New York, this train will be switched onto track 2 at tower 47, but right now the dwarf is red because no. 38, a Buffalo-New York passenger local, is coming out of Central Terminal and will run ahead of no. 122. The boxcars are Eastern States Farmers' Exchange feed traffic, and a part of XN-2, which is being doubled together in the Stock yard to follow the two first class trains east. Tracks here are as follows, left to right: the EA yard lead, the extension east of track 2 in FS yard, mains 8, 2, 1, and 7, the east-end coach yard lead, belt connection mains 4 and 3, and an industrial lead. The bridge and fill carry the Erie's Niagara Falls branch, over which the C&O has trackage rights between Suspension Bridge and East Buffalo.
