Title

Two Hudsons doubleheading train no. 14

Subject

Steam M&E Train

Description

The rear end of no. 14's seventeen-car train is still threading its way out of Central Union Terminal as the two Hudsons up front nose onto the Maumee River bridge. Contrary to the Pennsylvania's custom of running its K-4s in tandem on heavy trains, such doubleheading was rare on the Central, and was generally done for the purpose of balancing power rather than maintaining schedules. With this consist and 14's fast time, though, the extra horsepower was doubtless put to good use.
