Description

This excellent view of the hump at Frontier can be enjoyed from Harlem Avenue bridge, facing west. The main tracks are on the left. Next is the south yard, used for receiving (primarily), relaying, and departure, with NY-4 relaying on track 2 and BB-1 from Boston being pulled back out of track 6 for humping. The caboose tracks and the retarder building are in the background at left center. PS-10 is on the hump, passing the hump yardmaster, conductor, clerk, and switchtender in the building at the apex. The north yard, used for departure (primarily) and receiving, is in the right background. Hotshot NY-4 holds the main track today during crew change, but this was before pool cabooses, and the train was yarded while cabooses were changed and the air was tested.
