Description
Number 43 is shown again, this time leaving Rochester in the clutches of another S-1, no. 6003. When this picture was taken in 1953, headquarters for the Syracuse Division were in the station at Syracuse, but in 1959 they were moved to Rochester, likewise in the station. Although DeWitt yard and the Syracuse Terminal area have been removed from the jurisdiction of the Syracuse Division and now constitute a separate terminal division, the Syracuse Division has nevertheless grown with the acquisition in 1958 of the former Pennsylvania Division territory, comprising lines south of Lyons to Corning, Newberry Junction, Clearfield, and Cherry Tree. A sequence of photographs devoted to this area occupies the next four pages.
