Taking orders passing block station and semaphore order signal
Subject
Diesel Freight train
Description
This is the aforementioned Roots in busier days when it was a junction and 24-hour train order office. The day operator is shown hooping an order to a local freight, authorizing it as Extra 8306 south to run from Roots to Watertown via the main line. The train is crossing from the southbound to the northbound main, preparatory to moving onto the single-track main line. The second main between Roots and Philadelphia, eleven miles, has been taken up. This train still operates out of Watertown as a turnaround to Lowville via Philadelphia and Carthage.
