Title

Train VEG across Clark St., East Syracuse, NY

Subject

Steam Freight Train

Description

Clark Street in East Syracuse is doubtless one of the most often blocked grade crossings in New York State. Five tracks cross it: four freight mains leading to and from DeWitt Yards, with important crossovers necessitating slow speed and frequent stops at this point; and a fifth track leading out of the engine-inspection building. The latter is barely visible above in the right background, and the lead track referred to is the one nearest the camera; the low structure in the left background is GS telegraph office. An L-3 Mohawk type, no. 3026,is pulling across Clark Street at a snail's pace with 104 cars of westbound freight behind; in a situation such as this, the wise motorist will seek out a nearby overpass.
