Title
Lake Line Puller
Subject
Steam Freight Train
Description
In addition to thru traffic, on the NYC's four-track freight belt west of DeWitt Yards , East Syracuse, there is a large number of local freights and switching runs, the latter known to Central men as “pullers". The "puller" above is jogging along behind a class U-2d eight-wheel switcher, and is pictured in the location shown on the previous page. "Puller" crews are always supplied with cabooses, whereas crews of similar jobs on other roads must often ride the engine-cab and the car-tops.
