Title

Train VG from LV bridge

Subject

Steam Freight Train

Description

This long drag freight had crept up behind the Sperry rail-detector car referred to in the caption on the preceding page, and had caught a caution block at the signal bridge visible here in the background. The engine is no.2997, one of 300 L-2 class 4-8-2s on the NYC (no's. 2700-2999), and she is being worked at full throttle with reverse lever far forward in order to get the train's 135 assorted empties rolling again. The grade here is negligible, as is usual on almost all portions of the famed New York-Chicago "Water Level Route".
