Description
From Lockport Street overpass, we get this view of the NYC tracks as they extend westward past the station and tower 65. It is impossible to visualize the deep chasm from here; the CNR roundhouse, which is the building in the background beyond the tower, is across the river in Canada, yet there is hardly an indication of the yawning gap between the two. Again, we can see the Erie tracks, swinging in from the left. The track crossing the mains in front of the tower leads to the Ontario Branch (it also forms part of a wye for passenger trains which, except for Budd RDCs, must be turned here). The EMD units, nos. 1806-1805, are ready for a trip down the Falls Branch to Buffalo with a 55-car BB-5. (most of the train is in the yard, which begins on the other side of the overpass). Next to them is a C&O geep, no. 5736, working the air on a 30-car transfer bound for the Canadian side, where the C&O makes up their through runs for Detroit. The C&O rents a track in Suspension Bridge yard and pulls their interchange cars from it three times a day.
