Description
Hotshot JS-2, a Michigan Central train from Chicago and Detroit, eases through the diamonds and crossovers at tower 65, at the north end of the Falls Branch. Baldwin units 3813 and 3817 are pulling 65 cars, some of which are out on the bridge and some of which are still on Canadian soil. Beyond the home signals, the Lehigh Valley crosses at right angles under JS-2 to get to their Suspension Bridge yard (LV trains run over the Falls Branch between Tonawanda and Suspension Bridge, about thirteen miles). The Falls Branch tracks, having followed the gorge north from Niagara Falls, are not in sight here but enter in the left background on an eastward curve, which connects them with the tracks from Canada in the vicinity of the home signals. A single NYC track continues downriver (to the right), paralleling the LV and, like the latter, crossing the tracks to Canada on the far side of the signal bridge; this track later becomes the Ontario Branch of the Rochester Division. The tracks converging in the left foreground are those of the Erie's Niagara Falls branch, over which C&O freights operate into East Buffalo. Finally, the CNR tracks from Canada join up with the NYC just across the LV diamond.
