Though deprived of almost all crack passenger hauls by diesel power, the Central's great Niagara 4-8-4 types still make fast spurts between stops on secondary runs. The "Advance Empire State Express” calls for many of these spurts, running on a tight schedule with frequent stops between New York and Buffalo. Above is Niagara no. 6016 accelerating out of Canastota with train no.55, the westbound "Advance Empire". On the rear of her ten-car consist was a stainless steel Santa Fe club car, the "Nava".
