Highly polished and gleaming with a coat of fresh paint, the Lackawanna's no.1633 4-8-4 type steps out of the yards at Elmira, N.Y., with a 43-car cut of westbound freight. She was breaking in at the time after a thorough overhaul at the Scranton shops. Signals in the immediate background govern the crossing with the Lehigh Valley's Sayre-Horseheads branch.
