DL&W 4-8-4

Subject

Steam Freight Train

Description

The Erie's branch from Corning to Attica via Avon and Batavia connects the B&H with the outside world, but its one-freight-daily-except-Sundays character kept it from being of much interest during the stopover at Bath. The paralleling Lackawanna mainline reacted as if by prearrangement to the presence of the crowd of railfans: two freights passed, one west and one east, one steam- and one diesel-powered. This is the westbound , 74 cars behind no.1650, one of the road's powerful dual-service 4-8-4s, whose primary attributes are their overhanging sand domes.
