Subject
Steam Passenger Train
Description
An interval of twenty-five minutes separated the making of this picture (again, a shot of 'steam for steam's sake') from that of the preceding one. In the same location, we see engine 2469, one of the Canadian Pacific's G-3 class 4-6-2s assigned to the TH&B power pool, stepping out with no. 383 for Toronto. The eight-car consist includes four stainless steel coaches, which arrived in Central Terminal as part of no. 55, the 'Advance Empire', and which constitute a through New York-Toronto daytime service. This stretch of tracks is part of a 1.57-mile section of the Falls Branch between tower 52 and 'B' interlocking which is signalled for two-way operation on both tracks. Eastbound passenger trains are frequently run on the westward main from 'B' to tower 52 for the convenience of passengers detraining at Exchange Street station, where the westward platform is nearest the street. 'B' interlocking is an office controlling a pair of crossovers at Georgia Street, about half a mile west of the above location.
