Title
Train no. 351
Subject
Steam Passenger Train
Description
Most of the few steam locomotives which have appeared in the pictures thus far have been more or less incidental to the main purpose of all of this photography, i.e., to record on film as many of the key points of the Buffalo Division as possible. If, in the process, arrangements could be made to include a steam-powered train occasionally, so much the better, but this would be largely for the sake of interest. Here, then, is a purposeful shot of steam, in which the location, which happens to be the Falls Branch in the vicinity of West Genesee Street, is incidental. Hudson 5371, then assigned to the Canada Division of the Michigan Central, and maintained at St. Thomas, is getting under way with the thirteen car Detroit section of the Empire a short distance out of Exchange Street station. This engine is presently working out her last days down on the Big Four District, along with two other transferees from St. Thomas. The Hudson type will soon be a memory on the Central, but the accomplishments in speed of these fine locomotives will preserve and embellish this memory far into the more efficient and sophisticated future.
