Erie RR 2-8-4 with train still on Railroad St.

Subject

Steam Freight Train

Description

One of Erie's big 2-8-4s, now outnumbered by diesels on this division, trails her 82 cars of drag freight along Corning's Railroad Street and heads thru the yard for the run west to Hornell, site of large classification yards. Of 105 such machines on the Erie numbered 3300-3404, this is the 3321, built by Alco in 1927. Some were built by Baldwin and Lima; all rate as the largest and most powerful 2-8-4s in existence.
