Title

Erie RR EMD 4 F unit set

Subject

Diesel Freight train

Description

Pennsy trains use Erie rails above for some six miles from HO Tower at Horseheads thru Elmira to Southport, where the former's roundhouse and yards are located. Here's an Erie four-unit EMD diesel wheeling thru the outskirts of Elmira with 133 eastbound loads behind, with no sign of action save some dust rising under the trucks. When this was taken in April, 1949, Erie freight service between Hornell,N.Y., and Jersey City was over 60% dieselized, and the famous S-class Berkshires were getting scarcer every month.
