Title
Train BH-2
Description
Looking west towards Buffalo from the Harlem Road viaduct, one sees the beginning of the pocket-yard complex which parallels the main line almost continuously from this point west to TO (Buffalo yard), approximately five miles. The train in the foreground, pulling out of HC yard onto track 4, is BH-2, a pickup run from East Buffalo to Corning, running here with 33 cars behind units 1073-3316-3333. In the background on track 1 is a freight diesel running light, on its way from the locomotive terminal at Gardenville to the Stock yard in East Buffalo (via tower 46) to pick up hotshot XN-2. The track veering off at right, known as the Harlem lead, connects with the West Shore, which parallels the main line on the far side of the meadow. HC, the yard nearest the camera, is a 27-track pocket used primarily for handling road trains. At least four Erie Division freights terminate here each day, and about four trains (including the one above) are made up for the Syracuse and Pennsylvania Divisions. In addition, fills are added to eastbound trains originating at Suspension Bridge.
