Diesel Passenger Locomotive
Description
As it bears down on tower 46 at 85 MPH, no. 43, the semi-local 'South Shore Express', is about one mile inside the eastern limit of the Buffalo Division. Tower 46, which controls interlockings at seven different locations, is principally the means of routing freight trains between the main line and West Shore on the east and the Gardenville branch on the west. In this picture, the Gardenville branch connection can be seen passing beneath the main line at the lower right. Junction of the two is at Depew, which is in the vicinity of the smokestacks in the right background. Mainline tracks are numbered, from right to left, 2-1-3-4 (the latter two for freight), and the branch connection mains are 5 and 6.
