Description
This concluding photograph shows the 3000 barking up through Ivorydale on X-448, with eleven cars of mail and express and rider trailing. Engine 3000, it may be recalled, was pictured previously in both drag and fast freight service. The versatility of the L-3 and the variety of services in which it is employed are characteristics suggestive of the Ohio Division - versatile and varied, as indicated by the statistics cited in the introduction and by the photographic content of this volume. The latter was not compiled with the idea of proving a point about its subject-matter; as must be obvious from the individual pictures, each was taken because there appeared to be a degree of interest or excitement in a situation on the railroad at a particular place and time. But if the result as a whole has been absorbing, the decisive factor must have been the nature of the operations of the Ohio Division, a most interesting component of the Central System and a major source of vitamins in its struggle for economic health.
