Steam Passenger Train
Description
Trackage rights have been previously stated to be an integral part of the Cincinnati Terminal operation. Nothing could be more true, because the double track of the B&O west of Ivorydale Junction is a: lifeline over which passes nearly all of the lucrative interchange - traffic flowing to the Ohio Division at Cincinnati. All Ohio Division passenger trains must likewise use the B&O as a means of access to Union Terminal. (The four Indiana Division manifests between Sharon and Indianapolis also traverse the B&O.) The stretch of B&O right-of-way involved extends from Ivorydale Junction down through Mill Creek valley to Cincinnati Junction, about six miles. Passenger trains use only the 3.5-mile portion between Ivorydale Junction and RH tower, where the B&O connects with Union Terminal trackage. In this picture, no. 421 is shown on the B&O at Ludlow Avenue, nearing the end of its run from Cleveland to Cincinnati. Niagara 6005 is still accelerating the twelve-car train out of Winton Place, the suburban station about a mile east, RH tower is about a mile ahead, and from there it is two miles via C.U.T. tracks to the Terminal. The color as well as the density of traffic along here is increased by the presence of Pennsylvania and N&W passenger trains, which also use these tracks enroute to and from Union Terminal.
