West of Broadway tower (visible in the right background), S-1 no. 6013 begins to apply her plentiful horsepower to the task of breaking no. 35 away from the restrictions of the Toledo terminal, with the 133-mile racetrack to Elkhart ahead to bring out some of her speed potential. The 13-car train will not be much exercise for the elephant-eared 4-8-4, whose career was nearing an end despite the fact that she was only seven years out of Alco at the time.
