Description
Hudsons 5242 and 5273 of the pioneering J-1 class liven up this view of the coal dock area. There were 205 of these engines in various subclasses outshopped by Alco in the years from 1927 to 1931. The basic specifications of these two were nearly identical, viz.: cylinders, 25x28 in.; drivers, 79 in.; pressure, 225 lbs.; tractive effort, 42, 360 lbs. plus 10,900 lbs. from booster; weight, 359,800 lbs. and 361,000 lbs., respectively; and date built, 1927 and 1929, respectively.
