Description
Here is unadulterated steam activity at the west end of DeWitt in February of 1950. Left to right: engine 2719 departs with fifty empty hoppers enroute to the Pennsylvania Railroad at Southport (Elmira), N. Y.; engine 3134 waits for a signal to back onto another westbound; engine 7589 switches in the westbound advance yard; and engine 3040 (smokebox and exhaust only) starts a third westbound train. Big-time railroading, old style.
