Title

Pulling 65 empty reefers

Subject

Steam Freight Train

Description

Five tracks funnel traffic in and out of DeWitt on the east. From right to left, they are numbered 2, 1, 3, 4, and 6. The first two are high-speed passenger mains bypassing the yard, the next two are freight mains, and track six is used as both an eastbound freight main and a switching lead. Engine 3062 on track 3 waits with 65 empty reefers for a signal to pull into the westbound receiving yard, while on track 6 an eastbound manifest leaves behind trail-blazing F-3 units 1604 and 1605. The date is May, 1949.
