Southbound out of Corning yard, the NYC tracks duck under the Lackawanna mainline,cross the Chemung River, wind around past the glassworks, and cross the Erie main at grade before turning southward out of town, Engine 2517 at upper left in this picture, heading a 129-car southbound freight, has just crossed the Chemung bridge; the glassworks buildings are at upper right in the background. Eight-wheeled switcher no.7787 in the foreground, an Alco machine classified U-3c, waits for the 2517 to clear so that she can work the Erie interchange yard here.
