Diesel Freight train
Description
The new order in motive-power, here represented by EMD units 1653-1654, dominates the setting of the previous photograph in this shot, taken in the same spot about an hour later. The train is E-12, the eastbound pickup freight between Erie and Buffalo. Some of its 61 cars will be set out in Buffalo yard for connecting lines, but the body of the train will end up in HC yard at East Buffalo. When there are oversize or 'dimension' cars in the consist which will not clear mainline obstructions, these are set out in Seneca yard for movement via the Gardenville branch. The buildings in the background are part of the Ford Motor Company plant served by the South Buffalo Railway, whose tracks, diesel switcher, and modern yard office are just above and behind the locomotive and head cars of E-12.
