Train ON-2 in background

Facilities

Description

The marshes have been filled in almost completely here to support Seneca yard. This view of the main line, the yard, and the Maintenance of Way Department facilities in the foreground was taken looking west from Ridge Road overpass. On the eastbound main, diesels 1825-1824 are coasting with the 88 cars of ON-2, the merchandiser off the Big Four. This is still 85-MPH territory here (50 MPH for freight), but the maximum from BC to FO is 35 MPH, and ON-2's engineer will soon have to reduce speed for this restriction. Beyond the NYC mains are the single track of the Erie and the double track of the Nickel Plate. Tower D, at the west end of Seneca yard, is near the bridges in the background.
