Title

Train no. 416 passing depot

Subject

Steam Passenger Train

Description

The staccato voice of the 5415 resumes its chatter as the J-3 swings no. 416 through the turnout from single track to eastward main at Clarks Hill. The pickup waiting at High Street crossing is fouling the Nickel Plate interchange track, but the driver need not worry, because 416 has the stage all to itself and the head man on the local set a hand brake on that load for the NKP At the time, no's. 414 and 419 were the only passenger trains with scheduled stops at Clarks 1111, and since their removal, buses on U.S. Highway 52 a mile north of town have been the only public transportation available. For the people of Clarks Hill, though, the automobile has eclipsed all other conveyances as a means of getting around.
