Description

The aforementioned footbridge was built to carry pedestrian traffic between the hump and the YMCA at times such as this, when long eastbounds on the receiving yard lead are pulling slowly by while a yard clerk records the consists from the TV monitor. The train approaching here is Englewood/NY-2, with 74 cars of expedited connection to traffic off the CB&Q, Rock Island, and Soo Line in Chicago. The TV camera is located around the curve in the background. The five-track westbound departure yard parallels the inbound lead, with a lead to the cleanout tracks immediately adjacent on the near side and the caboose servicing tracks on the far side. In the background are the retarder building, class yard, and hump building.
