Title

Train DC-7 arriving from the east

Subject

Diesel Freight Train

Description

DC-7 was pictured earlier leaving Niles, Michigan, for Gibson Yard. Six years later, the new yard at Elkhart has resulted in diversion of through freight traffic from the Michigan Central main line west of Jackson and elimination of Niles as a major classification yard. This version of DC-7 is shown arriving in Elkhart, where its 108 cars will be humped and thoroughly classified for connections in the Chicago area and on the Kankakee line. Alco covered wagons 1051 and 3360 are just passing the depot, lined towards the freight leads in the foreground. B Tower is visible in the right background.
