Title

Stanley Puller passing tri-color signals

Subject

Diesel Freight Train

Description

The junction of the Cleveland-Chicago main line with the almost equally heavily-trafficked Detroit-Toledo branch is at Swan Creek, 1.3 miles west of Central Union Terminal. Swan Creek also governs movements to and from the east end of Airline Junction Yard, and in this scene, a puller to Stanley waits for the signal. In the foreground are main line tracks 2 and 1, 3 Main (a freight running track along the south side of the yard), the "hole" yard lead, and the "Panama" yard lead, on which geep 5655 and her 43-car transfer train are standing. The home signal above the engine governs movements on the Michigan Central southbound main; Swan Creek tower is in the right background south of the main tracks.
