At Ann Arbor, known primarily as the location of the University of Michigan, the Central has a modicum of activity featured by the Ypsilanti switch run, which is headquartered here. In this scene, eastbound mail and express train no. X-342 has just set out the express car from which the truck is unloading and has picked up the car next to the engine. As Hudson 5429 prepares to resume its Chicago-Detroit run, the Ypsilanti job shoves by on the westbound main, it's caboose propelled by a 600 horsepower EMD switcher.
