Train no. 350 among diesel and electric locomotives

Subject

Passenger Station

Description

Activity at the east end of the Michigan Central station at Detroit includes, in addition to the EMD switcher doing mail work on the left, Alco-GE motors 303 and 306 backing down to pick up no. 350, the Detroit-Buffalo section of the "Empire State Express." After the motors are cut off at Windsor, E7s 4005 and 4024 will take over for the run to Buffalo. The electrics are of the R-2 class, numbered 302 through 343 and built in 1930-1931. They worked in freight service between Harmon and New York City in addition to handling all trains through the Detroit River tunnel. In the background is the general office building of the Michigan Central.
