Description
Photo looking west at a long distant, east bound passenger train on track #2 just passing tower #3 on the crest of the West Albany hill. The engineer will continue applying the air brakes as the heavy passenger train carefully travers down the 1.63% grade of the steep hill with a sharp "s" curve, slowly passing through the four-track bridge over Broadway, past tower "B" on the northern edge of the Union Station elevated platform. Early in the morning when the great steel fleet east and south bound arrived in mass the long distant passenger trains would be lined up from the clogged station platform all the way up the West Albany hill waiting their turn to enter the station to discharge the awakening passengers. Tower "b" would be especially busy working the pneumatic switches to move as quickly as possible the trains of the great steel onto the elevated Union Station platform. Most of this action occurred in the very early morning darkness of Albany, NY during the long winter months.
