The same scene in 1953, four years later, shows an identical layout. Steam activity was by then limited to local passenger and mail and express trains. This phasingout is symbolized by Alco geep 8243 arriving on Main 8 with QD-2, the local freight off the Auburn Road. Today the passenger line (under the signal bridge at extreme left) is gone and all trains use the former freight belt (center), known as the Lake Line, between this location in East Syracuse and Syracuse Junction on the west side of the city.
