Description

One bulwark of Selkirk which remains basically unchanged in form and undiminished in utility is the general yard office. This two-story wood frame building, as homely as any of its type and era, is situated south of the yard just east of Jericho Bridge, from which it is pictured here. The Fairbanks-Morse road switchers idling in the foreground were in off a South Schenectady turn, and were members of a 13-unit pool which covered Mohawk, Hudson and River Division locals out of Selkirk, Hudson, and Kingston. Eight have since been retired, and the five survivors now work Southern District locals out of Indianapolis and points west.
