Title
Pusher on empty hopper train
Subject
Steam Freight Train
Description
The 2609 on the preceding page needed help from the 2655 (above) on this heavy grade, even though the train was a fairly light string of empties (they run up to 140). The two Mohawks are Lima built in 1918, members of the L-1 class, and are rarely seen on the high-speed "water level" portions of NYC mainline, but rather on slower drag-freight divisions such as this one. Heavy diesel purchases are causing the large-scale scrapping of these oldsters.
