Title

Empty hopper train south

Subject

Steam Freight Train

Description

Most of the New York Central's Pennsylvania Division runs are coal drags going north and empties returning south, though there is a considerable amount of miscellaneous freight interchanged with the Reading at Newberry,Pa. Above is a typical southbound drag of 98 empty hoppers on the upgrade between Himrod Junction and Dundee, N.Y., with 4-8-2 no.2609 as the road engine. Mine-tipples which fill these cars are mostly in the Clearfield district of Pennsylvania.
