Title

Train no. 52 under the Elk St. truss bridge

Subject

Steam Passenger Train

Description

This picture, like the one preceding it, was taken from Perry Street bridge, but looking west rather than east. The main attraction here is s-] engine 6020, eastbound on track 2 with the six cars of no. 52, a Cleveland-New York 'through local'. To the left of the S-1's magnificent steel bulk, the eleven through tracks and eight east-end stubs of Buffalo yard fan out widely. The two coal-occupied tracks to the right of the mains are also part of Buffalo yard; they are known as the Strong (left) and the Ryan (right), Track 2 is here governed by the eastward home signals of SP, on the bridge in the immediate background. Beyond the signal bridge is the Elk Street overpass, from which the succeeding picture was taken.
