Cleveland Lakefront Depot

Subject

Passenger Station

Description

Taken from Lakeside Boulevard bridge looking west, this photograph shows West Third Street in the foreground, and from left to right in the background, the Lakefront Depot, the NYC Lakefront running and main tracks, NYC spurs leading to the mail hall (in the distant right background, and under construction when this was taken), and PRR freight and passenger car yards. The disreputable Lakefront Depot was and still is the terminating point for PRR passenger trains servicing Cleveland, but their station at East 55th Street and Euclid Avenue is not only more respectable but is also is just as convenient for a large percentage of Clevelanders, and is probably used by more of them. The NYC, which at the time of the picture was made was using the Lakefront Depot to supplement its rather limited mail and express facilities at East 26th Street, has now withdrawn completely and is using the new mail hall.
