Description
This picture is a follow-up to the preceding one in that it was taken on the same day and of the same train. The consist, however, has undergone some change, and the power is altogether different. Standard operating practice at Bellefontaine on SLD-2 proceeds in this manner: the train is pulled up the Cleveland District main by its inbound road engine (and, on this occasion, helper) to a point where its rear end is approximately opposite Sandusky Street; a yard engine is then coupled to the caboose, and the train, minus its road engine (which cuts off in the vicinity of the main yard office and heads for the roundhouse) moves in a reverse direction to Gest yard; at Gest, any Bellefontaine cars are removed, and a fill is added; when the train is ready, the outbound road power couples on, the air is tested, and the run to Toledo is resumed. As it rolls past the high tower on the Sandusky line, SLD-2 here has swapped the 3009 for a pair of geeps, no's. 5636-5641, and has had its consist beefed up from 63 to 76 cars.
