Title
AC Tower, semaphore signal bridge and connecting tracks
Subject
Steam Freight Train
Description
The Erie operators in AC tower at Marion control, during Lake shipping season, about as heavy an aggregate of rail tonnage as can be found passing one spot anywhere in the United States. At any time of year, business for them is very brisk, involving as it does the crossings of the paralleling C&O and Pennsylvania with the Erie-NYC, the junction of the latter two, and several crossovers and connecting tracks to boot. In this scene, Mohawk 3004 is shown blasting past the depot and express building with 74 decrepit boxcars out of Bellefontaine, bound for either the scrapyard or the heavy repair shop at Ashtabula. The second, third, and fourth cars in the train are over the Pennsylvania diamond; the C&O crossing is just beyond the nearest signal bridge. The tracks diverging in the right foreground are connections between the Erie and the C&O (nearest the mains), and between the Erie and the Pennsylvania.
